Allow schools to resume Jan 18, proprietors tell FG

Some private school owners have asked the federal government to allow schools to resume a new session on January 18 as earlier fixed.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, had, on Monday, reportedly said the January 18 resumption date would be reviewed in view of the rising cases of COVID-19 infections in the country.

Chairman, Voyage International School, Abuja, Yussuff Oriyomi, told Daily Trust on Wednesday that the federal government should allow schools to resume because the children had lost a lot.

“They should allow schools to resume. We are fine and God is protecting us and we are also taking adequate protection,” he said.

The proprietor of Mic-ray Progressive School, Lokoja, Kogi State, Michael Ojonugwa, said: “Closing schools will continue to worsen the situation. Children have lost a lot in terms of learning and so many are trying to catch up with and adjust to learning after staying home for long. If the schools are shut down again, that will further affect the students”.
