Alleged persecution: PDP asks Buhari to deploy more security to Kebbi

The Peoples Democratic Party in Kebbi State has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to deploy more security agents to the state for the April 15 supplementary elections.

While briefing journalists on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi, the director general for PDP’s governorship campaign, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu, said the call to Mr President became necessary in the face of intimidation and persecution of members and supporters of the PDP by APC, the ruling party.

He said “As I address you, over 30 PDP members are in prison in Birnin Kebbi. Some district heads perceived to be supporting our party have been suspended. Some civil servants are being denied their salaries because they voted for the PDP in the last elections.”

He said that was the situation they found themselves in the state because of the fear that their governorship candidate, Aminu Bande, is more popular and people are ready to vote for him in the election.

The party also demanded from INEC to reorder the election in Nkaski to allow PDP’s candidate participate, saying, “If the supplementary election is allowed to be conducted under a peaceful atmosphere, PDP will win.

He called on security agencies and INEC to be fair and just in their involvement in the supplementary elections.

Reacting, APC’s public relations officer, Alhaji Isa Assalafi, denied the alleged persecution of PDP members by the APC-led government, saying, “There was nothing like that. In fact, we are hearing this for the first time. I think their allegations are borne out of their failure at the polls.”
