Alleged harassment: Ex-Foreign Affairs Ministry’s perm sec remains suspended – officials

Ambassador Adamu Ibrahim Lamuwa, the former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, remains suspended as investigation is still ongoing over allegations of sexual harassment against him, government officials told Daily Trust.

Mrs Simisola Fajemirokun-Ajayi, an aide to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, in May this year, accused Lamuwa of alleged sexual harassment despite being a married woman and also pregnant as of the time of his advances, which she said was resisted and reported to authorities.

Ambassador Lamuwa has, however, denied the allegation, claiming it was an attempt to damage his reputation and instead accused Mrs Fajemirokun-Ajayi of insubordination and financial misappropriation.

Mrs Fajemirokun-Ajayi, through human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, wrote a petition to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, accusing Lamuwa of sexually harassing her and making the workplace uncomfortable for her.

This led to Ambassador Tuggar writing to the immediate past Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, to investigate the allegations.

The development led to Ambassador Lamuwa’s suspension in June.

One of the officials told Daily Trust that Ambassador Lamuwa remained suspended as the investigation on the matter was yet to be concluded, adding that the committee set up is yet to submit a formal report of their findings.

Another official told Daily Trust that Lamuwa has not resigned from the civil service as this may mean admittance of guilt and that he was waiting for the reports of the committee set up to investigate the matter.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has since approved the appointment of Dr Ahmed Dunoma as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to replace Lamuwa.
