Allegation of mismanagement in NEDC unfounded – CSOs

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria (COCSON), the umbrella body of different Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria, has debunked the allegation of mismanagement at the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
A statement by the coalition, signed by President, Comrade Ikechukwu Chukwunyere; Vice President, Alh. Aliyu Abdullahi Bauchi and Secretary-General, Comrade Olayemi Success, which was made available to Daily Trust on Saturday, exonerated the NEDC from all allegations.
The NEDC was accused of mismanaging the sum of N100 billion but the coalition disclosed that “we actually embarked on a fact-finding mission as we were surprised about the allegations knowing well that the sincere development of North-East Nigeria is very important as a panacea to lasting and enduring peace in that region.
“Our findings show that the allegation is unfounded, unnecessary and a total distraction, coincidentally, the report of the National Assembly committee that also investigated the allegation concluded that the allegation is not true.
“We, therefore, urge the general public to disregard the allegation.”
The coalition appealed to the members of the National Assembly to always do due diligence and make sure that allegations levelled against persons or agency must have some element of merit before bringing it up at the chamber, stressing that discussions at the Chambers are always before the media as “some people will only have opportunity to hear the allegations without hearing the findings and that will be dangerous for our collective integrity.”
