Jonathan said this in Katsina State yesterday when he visited the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman.
The president who was in Katsina on a two-day state visit, said extending rail lines to state capitals would help reduce fuel costs and enhance the nation’s socio-economic development.
He said his administration would extend the rail line from Kano to Katsina in order to ease the movement of people and goods within both states.
According to him, to provide reliable means of transportation to over 170 million Nigerians, the government must link all major cities including, Katsina, to the rail network.
“I assure you that the federal government will include that project even if it was not yet in our projection. We believe that for the government to provide mass transit to over 170 million Nigerians, it needs to extend rail network linking all the major cities including Katsina,” Jonathan  said.
The president also assured that his administration would develop Zobe Water project in the state as well as ensure the completion of the Windmill power project at Lambar-rimi.
He thanked the emir as well as political and spiritual leaders of Katsina for the peace in the state, saying their efforts had prevented “trouble makers” from destabilising the state.
Jonathan noted that his administration introduced almajiri model school and the Federal University at Dutsinma because of its belief that education was the only way through which people could be liberated.
Earlier, the emir had urged Jonathan to extend rail line from Kano State to Katsina, complete Zobe water project and restart the Windmill power project at Rimi Rocal Government Area.
The president also inspected the Youth Craft Village built to train the youth on technical and wood works, arts and craft among others as well as the 35,000 capacity Karkanda Stadium in Katsina.
