Kano Pillars defender Jamiu Alimi has expressed satisfaction after his side overcame northern arch rivals El Kanemi Warriors 1-0 in a rescheduled game at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Wednesday.
In a chat with SHOT!, Alimi who was part of the Nigeria Professional Football League’s all-star team that visited Spain for a playing tour last month said the club remains on course to achieve its aim of clinching a continental spot at the end of the term.
“It’s a sweet victory because everyone knows El Kanemi is a tough team and always a formidable opponent, just hope this will make us to achieve our aim of at least getting the continental spot at the end of the season.” Alimi said.
Kano Pillars skipper Gambo Mohammed who missed Wednesday’s game against Warriors is expected to be fit to face Niger Tornadoes tomorrow, according to officials. The Player was injured when Pillars were battered 4-1 at Ikorodu United.
Experienced defenders Bala Mohammed and Adamu Murtala who were also not available for selection in the last tie due to malaria are also expected to be ready for match action.
Masu Gida are currently sixth on the NPFL table and will need to win its remaining games and also hope 5th and 6th placed teams Lobi Stars and Ifeanyi Ubah slip off so as to be able to get closer to the top four and a place in next season’s continental showpiece.
