They expressed dismay over the attitude of some elite in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging that people should be allowed to make their choice of governorship candidate in order to promote peace and democracy.
Speaking at the state elders stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend in Birnin Kebbi, Aliero insisted: “The PDP would not tolerate any imposition of candidate either from the above or anybody, rather we want to promote democracy and ensure a level playing ground.
“We heard all the people’s voices and we would not allow what happened in the past to repeat itself. Let us speak with one voice by picking a strong politician or anybody who has been in the party and suffers for the party.”
The meeting which lasted for more than six hours, was attended by Hon Bala Na’Allah, Sen Muhammadu Magoro, former deputy governor Suleiman Argungu, Sen Tanko Ayuba, Abubakar Gari Malam, commissioners, prominent politicians and traditional leader among others. Governor Saidu Dakingari, Senator Atiku Bagudu and Bello Sarki Yaki were absent at the meeting.
A governorship aspirant told our correspondent at the end of the meeting that all aspirants should be allowed to go for primary election to have a rancour-free process.a
