Alia faults alleged reckless spending of N2bn on vehicles

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State on Monday faulted a media report alleging his administration spent over N2 billion on vehicles for government officials.

An online publication had alleged that the governor approved over N2 billion to buy vehicles for himself and other government officials amid a promise to cut costs.

However, the governor described the report as fictitious and malicious.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, at a media briefing yesterday in Makurdi, said: “Alia’s administration took off from ground zero because he did not meet any functional vehicle on assumption of office.

“He continued to drive the rickety vehicles he used for his two months campaigns and had been administering the state to minimise cost so as to take care of other pressing issues.

“In fact, it’s a laughable report. It’s a blackmailing story that holds no water anywhere because Alia is the most prudent governor in the country today.”
