Kano is agog on Friday as people from all walks of life converge for the turbaning of the Madakin Karaye. The elevation of Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmad Karaye to the exalted position of Madakin Karaye and member of the emirate’s kingmakers did not just happen. It   was a well thought-out decision to select a very qualified man for the position.

Karaye is among the five other kingmakers to be turbaned today by the Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II.

Madaki is the head of kingmakers and chief administrator of the Karaye emirate council.

The newly appointed kingmakers will serve as council members, a high-ranking decision-making body in the emirate. They are to assist the emir in handling the affairs of the emirate.

Alhaji Ibrahim’s selection, according to a source in the emirate was based on his track records. The source, who preferred anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press, maintained that Karaye had all the qualities necessary to make a good leader.  He said they could not have made a better choice than the one they had done.

“The man proved to be a good leader when he served in different capacities at both local and state levels. He possesses all the qualities a good leader is expected to have. And I am sure, his choice to serve in this capacity will be an added advantage not only to the emirate but the state as a whole.

“I am confident that the man will not disappoint the emir, the government and good people of Karaye emirate. He will surely dedicate himself to the duties assigned to him and he will do everything possible to bring development to the emirate because he did a similar thing in the past when he served in a different capacity.

“To us the people of Karaye, I can say, we are lucky to have this man as Madakin Karaye because he will never let us down. He will use his vast experience to bring development to the area within a short time. So, the emir and governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje will not regret appointing Karaye as Madaki,” he concluded.

Born of June 1, 1968, Ibrahim Ahmad began his education at Karaye Central Primary School where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1981. He proceeded to Government Secondary School Karaye and Science Secondary School DawakinTofa, where he obtained his West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate in 1986.

He was also a student of Jigawa State College of Education, Gumel, where he obtained a National Certificate of Education (NCE) in 1999. In 2001, he obtained an advanced diploma in Public Administration from Bayero University, Kano.

He was a Vice Chairman, Rogo Local Government, Vice Chairman of UNCP, Kano-South, Chairman, Karaye Local Government, Publicity Secretary, PDP Kano State, Special Adviser to the governor on Rural Development,  Kano State ALGON Chairman, National ALGON President, Chief  Assistant Education Officer, Interim Management Officer (IMO) Kura  Local Government, Special Adviser to the governor on the Bureau for Land Management , as well as Special Adviser to the governor on the Bureau for Land Management among others.

Analysts say going by his track records, his appointment as Madaki and member of the Karaye emirate council will immensely contribute to the development of not only the emirate but the state as whole.

‘‘His passion to ensure progress of his constituents and humanity in general will certainly encourage him to work hard’’, an indigene of the state said.

Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmad also contested the position of House of Representatives of Karaye/Rogo Federal Constituency and he is currently the Commissioner of Tourism and Culture, Kano State.
