The Association of Local Government Nigeria (ALGON) in Benue State on Wednesday accused President Muhammadu Buhari of bringing hardship on Nigerians by his disrespect to the Supreme Court order restraining the ban of old naira notes.

The state ALGON’s chairman, Mike Uba, at a press conference in Makurdi, said the body was deeply saddened by the ‘draconian’ economic hardship deliberately imposed on Nigerians by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration.

Uba said the implementation of the redesigned naira notes of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had continued to cause pains for Nigerians, especially at the grassroots.

The association commended state governors who approached the Supreme Court to challenge the policy deadline.

“While the court processes were still going on, President Buhari by executive fiat issued a contrary directive thereby further compounding the misery of the populace. We find this as a great abnormality under a democratic dispensation for an elected president to ignore the ruling of the courts, especially the Supreme Court.

“This is disrespect on the judiciary seen as the last hope of the common man taken too far. And we condemn this in its entirety. We urge Mr President to direct the CBN to correct these abnormalities brought upon the people to save our democracy, The President should not be seen as one who is leading in disrespecting our law courts.”
