The Interim Management Committee of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (IMC-ALGON) has faulted plans by the Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGOVC) to host a national conference and award in Abuja.
The ALGOVC had invited chairmen, vice chairmen, and other dignitaries in the country to the occasion.
Reacting to the event, the IMC-ALGON led by Hon. Abdullahi Shuaibu Maje, who is also the chairman of Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State condemned the plan and also a move by the ALGOVC to present an award to Hon. Kolade Alabi.
According to Maje, who spoke on Wednesday in Abuja, Alabi is very undeserving of such leadership award as during his forced tenure in office as the national president of ALGON, he connived with some officers to allegedly drag the good name of the association in the mud.
He said the ALGOVC event was aimed at encouraging undeserving public stewards to continue in their path of doom and no return.
He also said that the IMC under his leadership cannot sit back and watch men who have sown on an infertile ground during their regime reap from fertile ground.
“It is unfounded and highly preposterous that the ALGOVC is set to confer an award on Alabi, even after a court of competent jurisdiction, suspended him from parading himself as national president of ALGON. We are yet to understand the basis for such award,” Maje said.
He lamented that chairmen and vice-chairmen who are supposed to be voices of those they represent at the grassroots level are partisans to such misdemeanour.
He said, “Where will the quest of President Muhammadu Buhari to nip corruption in the bud be if men of incompetence and less substance are allowed to parade as public stewards with awards from a major forum, organisations and in turn backing their shortcomings and under-performance?”
