Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has suspended the four-year tenure policy for permanent secretaries in the state civil service with immediate effect.
Al-Makura who gave the directive yesterday in Lafia during the swearing in of members of the state judicial service commission and a permanent secretary into the state civil service, did not specify how many years permanent secretaries would be in office henceforth, prompting the impression that he wishes to personally determine how long to keep a permanent secretary.
Al-Makura who described permanent secretaries as endangered species in the service, said that since the coming on board of his administration, he had not appointed a permanent secretary outside the state civil service, saying that such policy was to bring hope to the younger civil servants.
