Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State yesterday came hard on those clamouring for restructuring, saying what Nigeria needs at the moment is to reorganize the existing system of government to make it more more compact and less expensive to run.
Al-Makura who spoke while receiving the executive members of the Ahmadu Bello University ABU Zaria Alumni led by Ahmed Tijjani Mora in Government House, Lafia, stressed that restructuring would complicate the system and cause confusion rather than address the problem of the country.
Al-Makura kicked against the creation of more states, saying it was unnecessary for now that the Federal Government could not even fund the existing ones.
He reiterated that the present system needed overhauling to reduce cost of governance by adopting systems, including an unicameral legislature, and by pruning of state assembly members to one per local government area.
