Former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr. Chris Ekpenyong, is the party’s candidate for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.

His name was among other candidates cleared by the electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to participate in the 2019 election.

He would be contesting the senatorial seat with Senator Godswill Akpabio of the All Progressive Congress party in the 2019 general elections.

He had joined countless PDP faithfuls in the state to condemn the defection of Akpabio from the party that he said gave the former governor fame and fortune.

Ekpenyong had described Akpabio’s defection as betrayal and self-serving, and called on Governor Udom Emmanuel to expose Akpabio’s alleged financial misconduct to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ekpenyong is from Ikot Ukana in Obot Akara local government area.
