The sensitisation walk was part of activities organised by the Hospital to mark this year’s World Glaucoma Week.
According to the statement signed and issued by the Head Department of Ophthalmology, Dr Sadiq Hassan, glaucoma has been the number one cause of irreversible blindness and visual impairment.
He said the illness is often painless and progressive, which in most cases patients are not aware of until the problem advances and causes damages.
He said that the department makes it mandatory to annually organise sensitisation activities as part of corporate social responsibilityy to educate the general public on the importance of eye care especially during the Global Health Notable Days.
