Former Super Eagles striker Jonathan Akpoborie implied he’s not convinced about the credentials of soon to be announced national team manager Paul Le Guen considering his abysmal record at his last job in Oman where he was sacked.
Fever Pitch sent a message to the former Hansa Rostock of Germany striker that read “Joe, do you think Paul Le Guen is bringing on something special to the table regarding the Super Eagles job considering his terrible outing at Oman where he axed after exiting last year’s AFC Asian Cup at the group stage just as he did with Cameroun at the 2010 Mundial in South Africa?”
In his response, he wrote “hmmmm, me too I’m waiting to see ooooh.” Which implied a lack of conviction regarding the ex-Paris Saint Germain’s coach abilities to deliver the desired results as Nigeria look towards qualifying out of a difficult 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying group that has Africa’s highest ranked team Algeria, traditional powerhouse Cameroun and dark horse Zambia.”
The Nigeria Football Federation are expected to in the coming days announce Le Guen as the new coach of the senior national team.
It was gathered that the Frenchman will be handed a two-year deal, renewable if Nigeria qualifies for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) shortlisted three candidates, former Ethiopian coach Tom Sainfiet, Nigeria caretaker coach Salisu Yusuf and Frenchman Le Guen, who once handled Cameroon, for the job of the Super Eagles.
The NFF preferred Le Guen to Saintfiet, who was one time Technical Director of the federation and Yusuf who held sway as assistant to three Eagles managers before this time.
