Akpabio’s LG denies PDP total victory in Akwa Ibom poll

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured victory in 30 out of the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State. 

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC), Mr Aniedi Ikoiwak, on Sunday in Uyo.

The only LGA where the All Progressives Congress (APC) won is Essien Udim, the area council of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Though the elections were relatively peaceful in many LGAs, violence was recorded in some areas.

In Ikono, two persons were reported killed, while in Ibiono Ibom, the AKISIEC office was burnt down.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Timfon John, who confirmed the incident in Ibiono Ibom, however, said all electoral materials meant for the election were not consumed.

“Some hoodlums partly torhed the AKISIEC office in Ibiono Ibom, but election materials remained intact, election is also ongoing,” she said.
