President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. Samuel Akinrinola Akintunde as the 18th substantive Provost of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo State.
A statement by the Permanent Secretary, (General Services Office), Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Olusegun Adekunle, said Akintunde was appointed as provost of the college for an initial term of four years with effect from November 6, 2018.
Akintunde, until his appointment was the acting provost of the college, following the completion of the tenure of the former provost, Prof. Olukoya Ogen.
He is the second alumnus to head the institution and the first to be appointed deputy provost in the 54 years of existence of the degree awarding college.
Akintunde, who hails from Ilora in Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State, had his elementary education in Oyo and Ekiti states.
He is a graduate of Geography Education from the then School of Applied Arts and Science, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo and has a Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Social Studies from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
He was a lecturer in the Department of Social Studies in the last two decades and rose to the rank of chief lecturer.
He had been a facilitator to Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti states in the Universal Basic Boards in the training of primary and secondary school teachers; Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) capacity workshop for Community Development Committees and the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in training programmes.
