Akindele’s ‘Omo Ghetto’ becomes Nigeria’s highest grossing movie

‘Omo Ghetto 2’ was released on Christmas day in 2020, amid tension due to the coronavirus.

‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’, a movie by actor Funke Akindele, known for her hilarious role in ‘Jenifa’s Diary’, has been rated Nollywood’s highest grossing movie of all time.

A statement released by Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) said the comedy film has so far grossed N468,036,300 after holding the number one spot for its third week in a row, thereby surpassing Kemi Adetiba’s 2016 comedy movie ‘The Wedding Party’. It has officially broken a four-year record.

The sequel focuses on Lefty’s chaotic ghetto life and the more organised life of her twin sister.

Screened in the United Arab Emirates, the movie stars Akindele, Alex Ekubo, Adebayo Salami, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Thomas, Mercy Aigbe, Tina Mba, Femi Jacob, Deyemi Okanlawon, Timini Egbuson, Zubby Micheal, Akah Nnani and Nancy Isime.
