Akanle rejects Kogi West APC senatorial primary, says election sham

Dr Willams Toyin Akanle Campaign Organization on Thursday rejected the outcome of the primary election that produced Senator Smart Adeyemi as winner, describing the process as sham and disgrace to democracy.

In a statement signed by Dayo Akanmode, Director General Campaign for the organization, said the organization has in the past few weeks inundated the National Secretariat of the APC and the general public of the grand plan to impose a preferred candidate on the district by the governor.

The statement pointed out that part of the scheme to rig the primaries began when the venue of the primaries had to be changed over and over without informing the aspirants and delegates.

“Furthermore , the tactical delay to begin accreditation till midnight, with a different accreditation venue as earlier announced was another move made to rig the poll.

“We equally make bold to say that the state government officials hijacked the whole process as they dictated what they wanted and how they wanted it.

“We make bold to state that the plan to begin the election by 3:00am, even when all the aspirants agreed for a shift of the election to Thursday owing to delayed commencement and inconsistencies surrounding the poll, only for result to be announced beats our imagination.

“It should also be noted that as at the time the voting commenced, many of the delegates had left. One begins to wonder how the over one thousand seven hundred delegates was manufactured.

“The Campaign Organization therefore rejects in its entirety the result and outcome of the Kogi west senatorial district primary election as it did not meet the minimum standard”, the statement said.

The statement said the campaign organisation would seek redress through the appropriate channel and urged its supporters to remain calm and peaceful.
