Aisha Buhari welcomes First Baby of the Year

The wife of the president, Mrs Aisha Buhari, welcomed Abuja’s first baby of the year at the Kubwa General Hospital on Sunday 1st, January 2023.

Baby Chimemeka Testimony Uchenna – the third child of the family of Mr and Mrs Victor Uchenna – was delivered at exactly 12:03am and weighed 3.2 kg.

Welcoming the baby among other children born on New Year’s day, Mrs Buhari who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Administration and Women Affairs, Dr Rukaiya Gurin, presented gift items including postnatal care products, nutritional supplies and cash to babies.

Speaking on the importance of pre and postnatal care, the president’s wife urged mothers to practice exclusive breastfeeding and ensure they immunize their babies among other basic health practices.

 “Mothers and pregnant women are advised to attend antenatal and make sure their babies are delivered in a hospital,” she said.

She also presented gift items to the first babies of the year from 2012 to date, alongside other children celebrating their birthdays.

The Director, Child Development in the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Mr Ali Andrew Madugu, appreciated Mrs Buhari for her motherly role and generosity in championing the cause of women and children in the country.

In his welcome address, the Managing Director of the Kubwa General Hospital, Dr Lasisi Muhideen, thanked the government for giving the hospital all the necessary support it needs for optimal operations.

Mr Victor Uchenna, the father of the baby, thanked the president’s wife for the kind gesture while expressing joy for the privilege to see the New Year.

The first lady’s entourage also went round the ward sharing gifts and goodwill to other parents and their babies as well as a gift to the hospital.
