The wife of the President, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has charged mothers across the country to take adequate care of their babies, through immunisation, exclusive breastfeeding and provision of proper nutrition.

Speaking at Bwari General Hospital, Abuja, during the unveiling of the first baby of the year, the First Lady, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on African First Ladies Peace Mission, Dr Mairo Tanko Al-Makura, stated that the use of proper weaning foods for healthy growth and brain development of babies was key to their growth.

Aisha also called on mothers to note the importance of ante-natal, hospital deliveries and post-natal care to address the challenges of maternal and child mortality, as well as maintain basic sanitation and hygiene.

Speaking earlier, the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, who was represented by the Director, Gender Affairs of the Ministry, Mrs F. K. Bulus said the event was meant to create awareness on the importance of healthy living for mothers, and newborn babies.

The Chief Medical Director of Bwari General Hospital, Dr Abdullahi Anate, had earlier expressed gratitude to the first lady for her efforts towards improving the lives of mothers and their children through her Future Assured Programme.
