Our correspondent reports from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport that there were long and snaky queues of passengers waiting to board flights to their various destinations yesterday.
A particular trend noticed at the airport high number of passengers who thronged the airport with bulky luggage, what the airlines categorises as excess.
The local airlines operating yesterday at the airport include; Aero Contractors, Medview Airline, First Nation, Arik Air and Overland. The charge for excess luggage and air ticket the First Nation airline flight to Lagos on business class cost N45,000.
Also passengers patronizing the airline coughed out N300 per kg of an excess luggage. That means a passenger travelling with as much as 50kg in excess luggage, the same as a bag of rice, paid as much as N15,000.
Aero Contractors fare to Lagos cost N29,600 as against N25,000 charged previously.
Meanwhile, Medview Airline’s charges ranged from N29,000 for economy and N39,500 for business class to Lagos and Port Harcourt. Passengers pay N350 per kg of excess luggage. Overland airline charged N24,000 to Ibadan.
The Arik Air charged N50,800 for business class, N31,000 for economy to Lagos and passengers paid as much as N500 per kg for excess luggage.
