Niger State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Assistant Superitendent Richard Oguche told Sunday Trust that the Airforce men that attacked the police station were alleged to have been ordered by an officer from the Kano base of the Airforce whose brother’s motorcycle was impounded by the police on Friday night.
The motorcycle was said to have been impounded by the police for allegedly violating the 7 p.m. restriction on the movement of motorcycles in Minna, the Niger state capital.
When the motorcyclist told his brother, the latter was understood to have mobilised six other junior Airforce men men from the Rapid Response team of the Airforce Base to attack the policemen on duty.
The PPRO said, “The attack left one of the policemen with an injury on the head. However, three of the six Airforce men that attacked the policemen on duty were arrested”.
Contacted on phone, Commander of the Minna Airforce Base, Air Comdr Sani Zakari denied his men attacked the police. Zakari, who said he was away in Enugu, directed this reporter to verify his facts from the police.
