The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta, who died in Benin, Edo State on Saturday, would be flown to Adamawa, his home state for burial.
AIG Jimeta was in charge of the force in Edo, Delta and Bayelsa. Aged 58, the policeman died after a brief illness.
The Zone 5 public relations officer, Tijani Momoh, confirmed his death to Daily Trust on phone.
He said the late AIG would be flown to Adamawa, his home state for burial.

Momoh in his post on the Press Interactive Forum, said “Very sad one for the Zone, May God comfort his family, the entire Nigeria Police Force, and grant us all the fortitude to bear this great loss. May his gentle and peaceful Soul Rest In Peace. Amen”.
Also former spokesperson, Edo State Police Command Bello Kontongs in his post on the forum, said “Innalillahi Wa’innailaihi Rajeuun, We lost AIG Jimeta to cold hand of death”.
AIG Jimeta was first posted to Edo state as Commissioner of Police in 2019.
