The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. Kabiru Bala, yesterday said the use of Artificial Intelligence can help tertiary institutions, contrary to claims in some quarters that it would take away jobs.
The VC specifically said AI would continue to manifest in the quality of teaching, learning and research activities within the higher education ecosystem and in the future workplace.
Bala stated this in Abuja during a national dialogue aimed at guiding the innovative use of artificial intelligence in Nigerian higher education.
Daily Trust reports that the dialogue was jointly put together by ABU, International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) and UNESCO International Centre for Higher Education Innovation (UNESCO-ICHEI).

The VC explained that the objective of the national dialogue was to examine the potential benefits of incorporating AI technologies in teaching, learning, and research in order to improve innovation, global competitiveness and preparedness for the future workplace.
He said, “This has been conceived in recognition of the advancements of Artificial Intelligence, which is reshaping various facets of society, including the landscape of higher education.
“This fact has become even more pertinent with the advent of such AI technologies like generative AI and its disruptive impact in higher education in the post-COVID world.”
