Ahead yuletide, NCAA moves against flight disruptions

Ahead of the forthcoming yuletide festivities with associated increase in flights operations, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) yesterday embarked on a roadshow at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos to educate passengers on their rights and responsibilities.

This is coming amidst the rising complaints against airlines with flight delays and cancellations as well as cases of missing luggage on the increase.

The campaign, which commenced at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) or the domestic Terminal One, would be extended to other major airports in the coming days.

It was aimed at educating air travellers on their rights and entitlements from airlines when they suffer flight delays, cancellations or missing luggage.

The roadshow also took the team to other terminals within the MMIA vicinity including the Murtala Muhammed Terminal Two (MMA2) operated by Bi-Courtney.

Consumer protection officers enlightened passengers on the need to arrive at the airport right on time for their flights.

NCAA Director of Public Relations and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu said the roadshow was designed to keep the passengers and airlines informed as the festive season draws nearer.

He said, “This festive season heightens travel demand, and passengers must be aware of their responsibilities.

“Passengers must arrive two hours before domestic departures and three hours for international flights.”

Speaking on the rising cases of missing baggage, he said, “If your baggage is missing, the airline must compensate you immediately. For domestic flights, it is N10,000, while international flights attract $170 under NCAA regulations.”
