Agege pen cinema flyover opens for use Feb. 20

The 1.4 km Agege Pen Cinema flyover bridge project would be commissioned on Saturday, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said.

He said this during the ongoing 2021 Ehingbeti Lagos Economic Summit at Eko Hotels. He insisted the bridge will ease the traffic on the Agege/Iyana Ipaja axis as commuters spent hours plying the route daily.

The pen cinema flyover and bridge ramp will run from Oba Ogunji/Pen Cinema in the Agege area over a railroad crossing and land in Agunbiade street/Oke-koto and it extends all the way to the old Abeokuta expressway into Abule Egba. It was constructed to reduce travel time for residents in Ifako Ijaiye, Agege and Alimosho Local Government Areas.

Between 2017 and January 2021, commuters spent hours on the road in a journey, which hitherto would have been done in minutes.

In 2017, the former Lagos Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration pulled down structures earmarked for demolition to pave way for the new bridge. The contractor handling the construction had promised to deliver the road by December 2018.

The work on the bridge became abandoned and residents and passers-by found it difficult to navigate the area daily.
