‘Against the Odds’, 6 story books, launch voice for women, children

The books presented include Mallam Sidi, Fauziya Saves The Day, Mr Cockroach, The Big Aquarium, Emeka The Farmer, Kola & Lola and Against The Odds.

A motivational novel ‘Against The Odds’ and six other storybooks have been launched in Abuja.

The books presented include Mallam Sidi, Fauziya Saves the Day, Mr Cockroach, The Big Aquarium, Emeka the Farmer, Kola & Lola and Against the Odds.

Against the odds tells a story of courage and resilience among Nigerian women and young people.

The author Halima Usman said at the public presentation, “One of the issues we have as women from the north is that a lot of times, we are scared to voice out.

“In every woman/youth, there is a story to be told but a lot of times, we are scared to voice it out.

“I am glad that I have brought out these stories and from people who have read it,they can resonate with the stories,” said Usman, who also chairs the Abuja chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors.

She said the public presentation of the storybooks, which are predominantly targeted at children is aimed at reaching as many less privileged children as possible in rural communities to instill sound moral and ethical value in them as well as educating them on Sustainable Development Goals.

The Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Paulin Tallen commended the author for her support for women and literary development in the country.

The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr Daniel Jatau who represented the Governor commended her for her support in raising the standard of education in Gombe through her annual Gombe Day of Literature.
