Again, two children drown in Bayelsa flood water

The serene community of Ogbogbene in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State was thrown into mourning as five-month-old child, Karina Anthony (male) and another seven-year-old, Ebiowei Rachael (Female) drowned in flood water.

A community source told Daily Trust that Karina Anthony fell from the bed into the flooded water in their apartment, while Ebiowei Rachael drowned in the water in the surroundings.

Daily Trust reports that the flood water in almost all communities in Bayelsa State has continued to rise in the last two weeks, leaving residents in danger and suffering.

A community leader, Chief Harrish Ayemi, who confirmed the incident, identified the minors as five-month-old Karina Anthony and seven-year-old Ebiowei Rachael.

He said the incident was one of the many misfortunes flood has caused people of Ogbogbene Community.

Chief Ayemi maintained that while Anthony drowned on Sunday, Rachael died two weeks earlier.

He demanded sand filling of the entire community, lamenting that the community is regularly affected by floods.

The member representing the area in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon Tare Porri, commiserated with the community over the losses.

The lawmaker promised to channel their request to the governor of the state for possible actions.
