A petroleum tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of fuel with registration number KJA-900XR was gutted by fire in the early hours of Saturday along Ojodu – Berger axis inward Otedola bridge in Lagos.
The bridge in recent times has been notorious with incidents of tanker accidents.
Emergency responders led by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) were mobilized to the scene around 5:15 am.
The Oil Tanker reportedly spilled its content which resulted into fire. However, the fire was put out almost immediately by the LASEMA response team.
No fatality or injury was recorded as the team secured the vehicle and cordoned off the entire area around the incident.
According to LASEMA, investigations on the site indicated that the fire broke out when the Oil Tanker experienced tyre combustion (Burst Tyres) while on motion.
Further investigations showed that the truck’s tyres caught fire due to continuous movement after experiencing tyre burst.
Director-General /CEO of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said the impact of the incident was reduced due to the very short response time of the team.
Oke-Osanyintolu advised Lagosians to take adequate precautions to mitigate against fire incidents in their homes and offices especially this yuletide season.
