The party will inaugurate the Central Planning Committee of the event on Tuesday at its headquarters in Wadata Plaza, Abuja. The Chairman of the committee is Delta State governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan. An indication that the party, under the leadership of Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, is ready to mobilise a lot of money, may be, to be able to administer the largest political party in Africa and have enough resources in preparation for the long battle at the polls in 2011.
It is not clear why the party needs to do a fund-raise. After all, it has been on the neck of all political appointees under the party to pay a percentage of the income into the party’s account. Also, the party’s secretariat is believed to be run like a government ministry, such that funds flow from the federal government into its coffers to settle salaries and sundry bills every month.
It will be recalled that the immediate past chairman of the PDP, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, had earlier awarded a contract for the construction of a new PDP secretariat to the tune of N11.5 billion. The money was raised through dinners and appeals from governors and political appointees across the country.
