Eight new deaths have been recorded as Meningitis outbreak continues to spread in Jibia Local Government area of Katsina state.

Two weeks ago seven died in the same council just as several others are undergoing treatment following an outbreak of suspected Cerebral Spinal Meningitis (CSM) at Jaja village of Ganagarawa ward in the council.

Sources say the recent death was between Monday and Thursday this week and mostly affected are children aged 3 – 10 years. This recent outbreak was recorded at Bugaje ward of the council.

When contacted, the permanent secretary ministry of health Dr. Kabir Mustapha confirmed the death but said seven died at home and only one death was recorded at the hospital.

He said, a planned vaccination is on the way for people of the area
