Officials of the Lagos State Taskforce again raided commercial motorcycle operators on restricted routes and arrested seven riders for violation of the regulation.
A total of 132 commercial motorcycles were confiscated during the operation, whose owners were caught operating illegally and constituting a nuisance to the environment.
The renewed raid followed the killing of a police inspection at Cele Bus Stop on the Oshodi-Apapa expressway by suspected okada riders in protest of the arrest of their bikes by policemen from the Okota Division.
The chairman of the state taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye, who confirmed the arrests, warned traffic offenders and those he described as recalcitrant okada operators to desist or risk arrest and losing their bikes.
Jejeloye explained that some of the operators returned to some parts of the highways to carry on with the illegal activities despite the state government’s traffic laws restricting their movement to some areas.
“The ban on the operations of okada on the highways and restricted routes across the state is still very much in place and it is our duty to ensure that the law is upheld to the letter,” he said.
