A fire has gutted parts of the popular Gomboru Market in Maiduguri with goods worth millions of naira destroyed as a result of the inferno.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire broke out at Yan Katako, a part of the market where wood and carpentry materials are sold.
This happened when all the traders had closed but the cause of the inferno is unknown.
Eyewitness Mallam Habib Mohammed who was there said the damage cannot be immediately ascertained but the situation was put under control late on Wednesday night.

He said the fire erupted at 9: 55pm leaving many shops with wood materials gutted by the time fire service operatives arrived.
The swift response the operatives of the fire service had helped to put out the fire.
It would be recalled that the market had a similar fire disaster last year which destroyed goods worth hundreds of millions.
