Again, gunmen kill 21 persons, torch 10 houses in Kajuru

About 21 persons have been killed by suspected gunmen at Banono and Angwan Aku communities in Kufana district of Kajuru local government area of the state.

Daily Trust gathered that the attack occurred yesterday at about 9:30am.

Confirming the incident, Kaduna state Police Command spokesperson, DSP Yakubu Sabo, said the armed men who rustled 50 cows also injured three persons and torched 10 houses in the two communities.

He said a combined mobile policemen and vigilantes repelled the attackers and evacuated the injured to hospital adding that reinforcement of additional Police operatives have been drafted to the area ‎to maintain law and order.

“A group of armed men in large number on motor bikes entered Banono and Anguwan Aku; both are remote neighbouring villages in Kufana district of Kajuru LGA.

“The attackers started shooting sporadically attacking the villagers and in the process shot and killed twenty one persons (21), injured three (3) others and torched ten (10) houses. The bandits also rustled about fifty (50) cows,” he said.

He added that a combined teams of  PMF personnel, conventional Police, Army and the local vigilantes were promptly mobilized to the area, repelled the attacks and evacuated both the dead and the injured to hospital.

He said efforts are on to apprehend the fleeing criminals, for intensive combing and patrol with a view to forestall further breakdown of law and order, reprisal and arrest of the perpetrators.

DSP Sabo said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdurrahman, is saddened by this attack and has reiterated the Command’s commitment to apprehend the culprits.
