The latest incident occured barely three weeks after another container fell on a commercial vehicle around Ilasamaja also at Mile 2, killing two people, who were staff members of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The driver of the Ilasamaja accident of July 26th and his assistant were arraigned on Friday where the magistrate court was told the truck was not road worthy.
While the dust raised by the incident was yet to settle, another two people lost their lives late Friday under similar circumstances.
Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyitolu, told our correspondent on Saturday that the agency received a distress call via emergency toll free line and activated a response team to the incident scene.
Upon arrival, he stated, it was discovered that a truck loaded with an empty 40ft container suffered a brake failure and rammed into a stationary commercial truck.
He said: “The driver of the truck was rescued by the agency’s responders and taken to the nearest hospital by LRU ambulance service.”
He confirmed that two adult females lost their lives and their remains had been deposited at the mortuary.
The gory images from the scene showed one of the victims pinned down by the container with only half of her body shown.
