After two weeks, Niger Catholic priest regains freedom

The Catholic Priest of St Mary’s Catholic Church, Sarkin Pawa, in NIgger State, Very Rev Dr Leo Raphael Ozigi has regained freedom after two weeks in captivity.

The Secretary, Niger State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Raphael Opawoye confirmed his release to our correspondent.

Daily Trust loses former staff

He said the cleric was released on Friday after the ransom was paid but did mention the amount was paid to secure his release.

“He was released yesterday and ransom was paid,” he said.

The priest was abducted on Sunday alongside 44 other villagers on Gwada-Sarkin Pawa road on March 27.

Daily Trust could not however confirm if the remaining 44 victims were released.
