After Supreme Court ruling, INEC recognizes Udofia as APC candidate

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognised Akanimo Udofia as the duly nominated APC Governorship Candidate in Akwa Ibom State.

The commission listed the name and particulars of Udofia and his running mate, Victor Antai, as the governorship and deputy governorship candidates of the APC in Akwa Ibom State in its updated list of candidates released on Friday 10th March 2023, an aide of Udofia confirmed.

The inclusion of Udofia followed the judgment of the Supreme Court on March 7 declaring him a bonafide member of the APC having secured the party’s waiver to contest the May 26, 2022 governorship primary.

The apex court then dismissed the appeal by Senator Ita Enang challenging the verdict of the Court of Appeal in Abuja for lack of the locus standi to file same.

This was followed by the order of a Federal High Court in Abuja on March 9 directing to publish Udofia’s name as the APC candidate for the March 18 election.
