After N10m ransom, students, lecturers of Kaduna poly reunite with families

The nine abducted members of staff and students of the Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Friday reunited with their friends and families, one month after gunmen invaded the senior staff quarters of the school in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Daily Trust Saturday gathered that the victims had paid a ransom of N10million to secure their release.

The gunmen had earlier demanded N10 million for each of their captives, but during negotiations, the amount was reduced to N2.5 million.

A relative of one of the lecturers confirmed to our correspondent that all of them had been released and they reunited with their families on Friday morning.

“We paid N6.5m at first, then later, another N3.5m was dropped off for the bandits at a secluded area,” he said.

Mrs Helen Nisai, whose husband, Habila Nisai, was among those abducted, confirmed that she had reunited with her husband. “To God be the glory, they are back home and fine, even though they are very lean because they have been in captivity for one month. We are happy they have been released,” she said.
