After failed gov bid, Kyari on Borno senate ballot causes uproar

The inclusion of defeated All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant, Senator Abu Kyari on the ballot papers for the Borno North Senatorial primaries has caused some uproar in the zone.

APC state Women Leader and Senatorial aspirant, Hajja Fati Kakenna Alkali Shettima alleged that the current Senator from the zone didn’t go through screening and was not eligible.

Kakenna said she was surprised to see the name of Kyari on the ballot paper but was further amazed to be told after vote has been conducted in three of 10 local governments in Borno North that the other seven have to wait for ballot papers from Abuja as the initial papers had been exhausted.

“I was shocked and surprised when I saw him when they called all the Senatorial aspirants with House Representatives aspirants into state APC Chairman’s office and addressed us.

“I am demanding that we must all be given equal treatment. If someone that contested governorship election three days ago without being part of Senatorial screening is now contesting for the Senate, then something is fundamentally wrong and this must not be allowed.

The other two aspirants, however decided to throw in the towel for Kyari, who is the incumbent senator representing Borno North.

Kakenna vowed that no amount of intimidation would make her step down for any aspirant.

Correspondents who visited the venue of Borno northern senatorial election at State Hotel, Maiduguri gathered that there was shortage of materials as delegates were still waiting for electoral materials to arrive.
