The police have also amended the charges for the second time and the new charges included grievous hurt.
Our reporter learnt that, the new magistrate on Monday remanded the culprit, Aliyu Sunusi Umar, in the Sokoto Correctional Centre till next Monday when the case would come up for further hearing.
Speaking on the replacement of the magistrate handling the case, the Chief Registrar of the High Court, Bashir Ibrahim, said it was not a disciplinary measure against the magistrate.
According to him, there was no complaint written against her by anybody.
He said, “We just thought being a new magistrate she might not understand the gravity of the case that is why she was replaced by a highly experienced magistrate to handle the matter.
“But the decision has nothing to do with disciplinary measures because nobody complained against her.”
The father of Fatima, Dr. Suleiman Saba, expressed satisfaction with the new development, saying they were optimistic justice would be done to their daughter.
Meanwhile, the wife of the Governor of Sokoto State, Hajiya Mariya Tambuwal, on Monday visited Fatima and pledged to support her in overcoming the trauma.
Daily Trust reported that Fatima was a student of Khalifa International Model School located along Nana Asma’u road.
After sitting for their final examination, Fatima and her friends came out from the examination hall, jubilating, exchanging contacts and signing autographs.
It was during this joyful moment that she was said to have received a call from her mother that she was on her way to pick her up.
It was said that Fatima came and sat with her friends outside the school as she awaited the arrival of her mother.
In the process, a fellow student from another school who was doing stunts with his car, hit her.
She recalled, “We were sitting with my friends when the guy came on high speed and splashed stagnated water on us. We reported him to our school authorities who called and asked him to leave the area.
“But instead of heeding to their warning, he engaged in stunt driving as a result of which he lost the control of the car and the vehicle ran to where we were sitting.
“We tried to escape but unfortunately for me I missed step and fell down and the vehicle ran over one of my leg but my two friends were lucky to escape unhurt.
“I was then brought to the Trauma Centre of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital where after thorough examination the doctors concluded that my limb has to be amputated in order to save my life and that was what finally happened.”
Fatima said her ambition is to become a medical doctor, adding that what befell her would not stop her ambition.
“I have been nurturing this ambition for long because my father is a medical doctor. I wrote JAMB this year and got 230 scores,” she said.
