The media must step up its campaign against terrorist groups, terrorism and hate speech to save Africa from their heinous consequences.

The President of Union of African Journalists (UAJ) Mahfouz Ansari, and President of Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation, Mukrim Muhammad Ahmad, said this yesterday in Cairo, Egypt.

They spoke during the 50th anniversary of the Training Course for Young African Journalists organized by the UAJ in cooperation with the Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation.

The course which began in 1992, has so far trained over 1000 journalists from all over Africa.

Daily Trust investigations editor, Nuruddeen M. Abdallah, was one of the three alumni of the fellowship that received award for their “exceptional performance” during the event.

The two other recipients of the award are Mr Souleymane Diah of Senegal and Ms Zurah Nakabugo of Uganda.

Mr Ansari said African journalists must promote integration and develop a new front against terrorism which is ravaging some parts of Africa.

He said the UAJ is considering shifting the venue of the subsequent training course to other African countries.

Mr Mukrim said the council was involved in the training course because of Egypt’s belief in the empowerment of the African youths.
