Preparations are in full gear to host the 3rd edition of the African Boardgame Convention (AB Con).
One of the organisers Kenechukwu Ogbuagu told Youthville in a statement that for the this edition they are introducing the AB Con Award which is meant to “reward various individuals and organizations whose immeasurable contribution(s) have added to the growth of the TableTop Gaming industry in Nigeria which includes Boardgames, card games, roleplay games, miniature games and dice games.”
He explained that AB Con which started in 2016 is the brainchild of NIBCARD Games; a boardgame designing, publishing and manufacturing company in Nigeria which has produced 21 boardgames that chronicles the Nigerian narratives, increases educational outcome and raise awareness on societal issues.
He said over 70 table top games from across the world would be available at the event slated for November in Abuja. Some of the games would include: Oya, Chiyawa, Irin Ajo, Nwanyi Iga, Luku Luku, Hut Alive, Safe Journi, Mgbako, Homia, Ukubuwa, Atnor, 17 Steps (SDG awareness) among others.
Kenechukwu added that during the event which is expected to last from 9:am- 6:00pm at Merit House, the award session would recognise individuals andr organizations in the different category such as: Veteran Boardgame Designer Award, Boardgame Legend Award, Boardgame Manufacturer Award, Boardgame Designer Award, Boardgame Promoter Award and Support for the Nigerian Boardgaming Industry Award
He said “Each of the recipients have been carefully selected for the outstanding role they play in promoting the boardgame industry in various part of the country such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Delta and Abuja.”
