The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Lawal the governor-elect with a majority total of 377,726 votes, to unseat the incumbent governor Matawalle, who polled 311,976 votes.

The results are from a poll of the state’s 14 local government areas from which the governor-elect won 10.

The African Achievers’ Award was founded in 2011. The first Achievers’ Award was presented to Archbishop Desmond Tutu in 2011 in recognition of his fight for human rights, justice, and peace. The first awards event was held at King’s College London in February 2012.

“Since its inception, we have recognized influential Africans that are developing and growing Africa we all want to see. We celebrate African excellence by recognizing and honoring notable individuals and organizations in Africa across multiple industries that contribute immensely to the growth and development of the continent.

“Today, we celebrate Dr. Dauda Lawal as he takes the giant strides to further serve the people in his glorious ascent as the chief servant of Zamfara. Congratulations to His Excellency!” Idaminabo stated.

Lawal, who is Executive Vice Chairman of Credent Capital and Advisory Limited, was earlier this year listed as one of the “100 Most Reputable Africans” 2023 by Reputation Poll International (RPI), a leading global reputation firm.
