African countries need to double their efforts to achieve a 75 percent reduction of malaria by 2025, the World Health Organisation has said.
WHO Regional Director for Africa Dr Matshidiso Moeti said this in a statement to mark this year‘s World Malaria Day with the theme “Zero Malaria Starts with Me”
She said as long as malaria existed, it threatened the poorest and most vulnerable, and has the potential to resurge in times of crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic facing the world currently.
She said greater political commitment, accelerated investment, and more innovation in malaria prevention and control were urgently required.
