The pan -Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere as presently constituted, has outlived its usefulness.
Therefore, it would be impossible for the organization  to currently protect the interest of the Yoruba nation.
A political scientist, Dr. Emmanuel Ojo made the comment in a chat with Daily Trust against the backdrop of the current crisis rocking the organization.
Leader of the group, Pa Reuben Fasoranti had on Sunday resigned as the leader of the association before he later rescinded his decision. He had earlier cited disunity in the association as the reason for his resignation.
However spokesman of the group, Mr. Yinka Odumakin who briefed newsmen after a meeting in Akure Ondo stressed that there is no crack in the association.
But Ojo believed that party politics had rendered the association ineffectual in representing the interest of the Yoruba nation.
He said, “The organisation has outlived it’s usefulness. With political parties and regular elections, no other platform is effective any more”.
According to him, with regular elections, people now have the power to change a non – performing government without the interference of any Yoruba leader so- called.
The Ibadan – based Don cum politician said the Yoruba nation can never in the nearest future have a leader that would be a rallying force like the late premier of western region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
According to him, it is not impossible to have leader like Awolowo “ but for now, there is none in the horizon.  Many don’t have original ideas and the political firmament has changed too”.
