A Magistrate’s Court  in Ado-Ekiti  has withdrawn the arson charges preferred against  the 22 students of Afe Babalola University who were arrested and detained following a violent protest in the school.
The Director  of  Public  Prosecution (DPP) Mr Gbenga Daramola said that  the  parents  of the students  had written  a  letter  of  apology  to the  management  of the institution and management agreed to  withdraw  the  criminal  charges against  the  students following  the  apology and affidavit of facts admitting  their involvement  in  the  incident.
He however said  that  five of the  students  had case to answer and urged  the  court  to  remand them in police custody.
Chief  Magistrate Adesoji Adegboye thereby struck out the charges and discharged the students, except the five ordered for police custody for a “case to answer from  the  DPP office.”
