Nigeria’s outgoing minister of agriculture Dr Adewumi Adesina on Thursday emerged the 8TH president of the African Development Bank (AfDB). He succeeds Donald Kaberuka of Rwanda, and assumes duty on September 1, 2015 in Abidjan.
Daily Trust reports that Adesina emerged winner after scoring 58.10 percent of the total vote cast exceeding the 50 percent requirement. He scored 60.50 percent of regional vote.
Adesina’s nearest rival, the Chadian candidate got 31.62 percent of total vote cast and 36.63 percent of regional vote.
The only female candidate in the contest from Cape Verde got 10.27 percent overall vote and 2.87 percent of regional vote.
The three candidates slugged it out in the final round of voting after those from Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Mali,Tunisia and Ethiopia were voted out in five previous voting rounds.
