AFCON qualifiers: Dele-Bashiru scores late winner as Nigeria beat Libya

The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Libya in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, on Saturday.

The win moved the team to seven points from three games in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Libya adopted a defensive strategy, aiming for a draw, but Nigeria’s persistence paid off in the 86th minute.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru came from the bench to convert Moses Simon’s cross, sending the Godswill Akpabio Stadium into jubilation.

The win marked interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen’s second victory in three AFCON 2025 qualifiers.

It puts the Super Eagles at the top of Group D with seven points ahead of Benin Republic (six), Rwanda (two), and Libya (one).

On Tuesday, Nigeria and Libya will face off again in Benina in their fourth Group D match.
